Sometimes the focus on churches is heavily biased towards the purpose of the building rather than the architecture and unique history.
Angels & Pinnacles is a project to try and encourage more visitors to Suffolk’s historic churches. In turn, this will help with other local tourism and raise awareness of churches in general. When the local diocese got in touch with Condiment, we loved the idea and started work on branding the project.
The project was split into 6 different ‘zones’ revolving around larger Suffolk towns and villages. This would help people find the churches and help cluster them together. The project aims to standardise the printed material all of the churches use and offer maps and information to visitors.
With this zone idea in mind, I had a plan to give each area it’s own sub-brand with unique colors and logo. For each I built a ‘compass’ that pointed to all of the churches geographically. The spokes used elements that I found in images and trips to local churches.
Finally the ‘compasses’ were combined with a beautiful serif to produce a colorful and unique mark for the project.
This project was a fun way to help the local area with tourism and to give focus to some fantastic history and architecture.
